This book will change the way you think about storytelling – which is exactly what it’s supposed to do. Although the text is difficult to follow at times for Tayo’s flashbacks, and the drunkenness of the characters is often frustrating, the focus is truly on the stories that make us who we are. Silko is an incredibly powerful writer and can take horror and hurt and transform them into vehicles for expressing the amazing poetry of love and life, all while reminding us why American Indian culture is far from dead and gone.
